Climate Change Education and Action
In response to an increasing urgency to address global climate change, Emory is seeking ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy savings. As detailed on our Energy Conservation webpage, Emory's goal is to reduce our energy use by 25 percent per square foot by 2015 from our 2005 levels. We have calculated our 2005-06 and 2006-07 greenhouse gas emissions to establish a baseline and track our progress.
In the past, Emory has also held a series of dinner discussions to foster awareness of climate change and examine closely its impacts. Discussions were held on the following topics:
The Media's Response to Climate Change
The Law and Politics of Climate Change
Business and Ethical Perspectives on Climate Change
The Public Health Impacts of Climate Change and the Psychology of Denial of Climate Change.
Upcoming lectures on climate change will be conducted as part of our Sustainability Speakers Series.
As part of Emory’s 175th anniversary celebration, the University adopted a Climate Action Plan that chronicles the University’s sustainability efforts to date and sets forth a series of goals and recommendations for reducing greenhouse gas emission in the future.
