Virtual Earth Month – Reengage Civically
April 29, 2020
#reengage: In response to the current global crisis, many states have delayed elections or allowed citizens to vote by mail with extended deadlines. Georgia’s primary elections have been postponed until June 9th, which means you must submit your absentee ballot request no later than May 11! Especially now, voting by mail can help ensure that elections go on safely, securely, and on time. Here are some steps you can take to #reengage or stay #engaged civically and protect your health.
Learn more about how to request an absentee ballot and the importance of voting by mail in the Emory Votes Initiative video! bit.ly/3aOgkMw
1. Register to receive election updates through emory.turbovote.org. Find out important election dates in your state and make a plan to vote-by-mail!
2. Learn who is on the ballot and do some research to find out if their values, actions, and vision align with yours.
3. Complete the Census, which happens only once a decade and has direct ties to disbursing federal resources and to political representation. Find special instructions for students from @emoryvotes here: http://ow.ly/Suzc50zrRAR
4. Let your local and federal legislators know your feelings about an issue concerning you. Find your representative at http://ow.ly/5O1t50zrRAU. A template for letters can be found here http://ow.ly/bi7r50zrRAS.
