Don’t Dump It, Donate It

Don’t Dump It, Donate It!
It’s Emory’s annual move-out program, which happens as the academic year comes to a close.
Students moving out at the end of the semester are encouraged to give away rather than throw away their unwanted items and to share information on the program with those who may assist them with moving out of the residence halls.  Bins specially marked for the donations are placed in the residence halls areas of campus, including the sorority townhouses and fraternity houses on Eagle Row.
Here is a list of items you can donate during Move-Out
  • Clean clothes and shoes
  • Gently used cookware
  • Unopened, unexpired, non-perishable food
  • Working electronics
  • Toiletries
  • Hangers
  • Office supplies
  • Home Decor: lamps, pictures, etc.
Open/expired food, used paper towels, and plants/flowers can be composted. Cardboard, paper, and metals can be recycled in the blue recycling bin while glass should be brought to one of hard-to-recycle stations on campus.
Below are the maps for donation trucks, compost and recycling bins on Emory’s Atlanta Campus, Eagle Row, and Clairmont Campus.
Proceeds from the sale of donated items will be given to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a not-for-profit children’s healthcare system dedicated to caring for infants, children, and teens.
This program is made possible by the following organizations: Housing and Residence Life, Emory Recycles and the Office of Sustainability Initiatives.
Sign up here if you want to serve as a zero-waste volunteer for Move-Out on May 6th, 7th, 8th, or the 13th.  In 2025, we were able to donate 40,760 lbs.
