Virtual Earth Month – Replace Meat & Dairy
April 28, 2020
#replace: Did you know that the meat- and dairy-centric Western diet contributes to about 1/5 of global emissions? One way we can help reduce these emissions, and also live a healthier lifestyle, is by transitioning to plant-rich diets—Project Drawdown’s number 3 solution to global warming. Whether you chose to fully commit to a vegan or vegetarian diet or simply cut back on your meat and dairy consumption, these changes can have substantial positive impacts on the environment!
This #virtualearthmonth, we encourage you to #replace or #reduce these items to create a plant-based diet that works for you:
1. Start slow by incorporating a few plant-based meals into your weekly routine or having designated plant-based mornings, afternoons, or evenings. Learn some tips and recipes for a plant-based breakfast from Emory University Hospital Executive Chef, Mike Bacha: http://ow.ly/Ouil50zqEUR
2. Create a healthy food environment by planning ahead, cooking more meals from scratch, and stocking your pantry with plant-based alternatives, such as beans, lentils, and vegetables to #replace the meat in your favorite dishes. Check out these cooking techniques and tips from Emory’s food service provider, Bon Appetit: http://ow.ly/SnN650zqEUM
3. Always remember to focus on the positive—there’s power in small change! Find some positive motivation from Dr. Sharon Bergquist of Emory Healthcare: http://ow.ly/RwZ650zqEUP
