Convenient access to high-quality artisan products; fresh, local produce; and organic and sustainably produced drinks, bread, snacks, honey, & more!

The Emory Farmers Market began in 2008, as an initiative of the newly-formed Office of Sustainability Initiatives.  Led by the Sustainable Food Committee, the market was part of the university’s ten-year strategic plan to move toward “Health Emory/Healthy Planet.” The Emory University Sustainable Food Committee was asked to craft a set of recommendations for the development of a University Farmers Market on the Druid Hills campus. In 2007, the original Market subcommittee was formed and had an integral role in the formation of the Market. Today, the Farmers Market subcommittee reviews new vendor applications and decides what programmatic changes should occur during the academic school year.

The market serves as a gathering place for the Emory community and offers an opportunity to connect Emory students, faculty, and staff with local Georgia farmers and makers. The Market supports smaller Georgia farmers and their products, while providing the ideal space for consumers to establish a relationship with the people who grow their food. When the Market debuted on June 10th, 2008, there were 7 featured vendors. Now there are as many as 20 vendors depending on the season!

Monthly special events include contests, cooking demonstrations, live music, and other activities that are catered to increasing knowledge about sustainable production systems, biodiversity, animal rights, and farmworker rights. These events provide extra opportunities to establish relationships with vendors and farmers, because we believe that knowing the people who produce your food is a critical component of a local, sustainable food system.

New Additions
In 2014, the organic Oxford College Farm opened under Daniel Parson on eleven acres down the street from the Emory University Oxford College campus. The farm produces fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, and flowers, which are sold at the Farmer’s Market. As of Fall 2015, Parson offers a seasonal Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, which includes weekly deliveries of produce from the Oxford Farm. If you are interested in supporting becoming a CSA member, visit the Oxford Farm website for more details.

In Fall 2015, Emory Dining provided Market vendors with an Emory Card Reader, which allows students to pay using Eagle and Dooley Dollars. Students can now use money from their dining plan to purchase items at the Farmers Market, increasing accessibility for the students and increasing profits for the vendors.
