In light of current global challenges and as part of Emory's commitment to positive transformation in the world, Emory has identified sustainability as a top priority of the university. The vision calls on the Office of Sustainability Initiatives to help restore the global ecosystem, foster healthy living, and reduce the University's impact on the local environment. The University is assessing the progress using the environmental, economic, and social "triple bottom line" of sustainability.

Emory has a well-established program in Green Building— currently having one of the largest inventories of LEED-certified green building space by square footage among campuses in America— and the longest-running faculty development program in sustainability in the country.

The following are several of the key sustainability initiatives at Emory:

  • Green Building and Greenspace Protection
  • Energy Conservation
  • Waste Minimization
  • Water Conservation
  • Sustainable Food
  • Commute Options
  • Encouraging a connection to the natural world through a program called Emory as Place.

Cutting across each of these areas are opportunities in Curriculum and Research.
