Emory University’s Graduate Sustainability Group Conducts Social Network Analysis of Sustainability Network

In Fall 2014, Emory’s Graduate Sustainability Group conducted a Social Network Analysis (SNA) of graduate student sustainability involvement. SNA is a method of making visible the connections between individuals and groups and evaluating how these relationships and interactions function. These efforts will continue in Spring 2015 to map Emory’s entire sustainability network in order to understand who is engaged in sustainability--including students, faculty and staff--and whether, to what extent and how individuals and groups collaborate in their sustainability practices. The results will help the GSG, Emory University and the various groups and individuals who are engaged in sustainability to develop concrete strategies to improve the network. These may include initiatives to facilitate communication between and integration of different sustainability clusters and efforts to better support underrepresented groups and individuals.
