Sustainability Innovator Awards are presented to faculty, staff and students who have gone above and beyond normal job requirements at Emory to advance the University's sustainable goals. The awards were presented by Ciannat Howett, director of sustainability initiatives, at the Fall Food Fair on September 25.
Winners include:
Chaz Holt, Emory's first farm liaison, in recognition for his work with Georgia Organics to build bridges between Emory and area farmers to help the University achieve its goal of 75% local and sustainably grown food by 2015.
David Hanson, associate vice president for administration and special assistant to the executive vice president for finance and administration, in recognition for his service as interim director of sustainability initiatives, and his advocacy and support for the program.
Patty Erbach-Ziegenhorn, senior director, Emory Food Services, for her work over the past three years towards sustainable food innovations such as the Organic Box Program, Zaya Mediterranean café, and establishing a sustainable food education coordinator.
Kiersten Murnane, senior marketing manager, Emory Marketing, in recognition for her marketing outreach and work to build Emory's sustainability website and pledge.
Lee Smith, director of orientation and communication for undergraduate education, in recognition for his oversight of Orientation at Emory, which was nearly zero-waste and paperless this year.
Deena Keeler, manager, auxiliary services operations Campus Services - Exterior Services/Sustainability Initiatives, in recognition of her work to make composting food waste at the DUC a normal part of the daily dining experience for students at Emory, and her composting work with orientation and homecoming this year.
